Abu Dhabi Art, Talks and Sensations: The Wings Party
On Thursday night the skies of Abu Dhabi glittered with fireworks by renowned Loris Greaud to celebrate Abu Dhabi Art, the new modern and contemporary fair being held at Emirates Palace daily from 4-10pm until tomorrow (Sunday 22 November).
Abu Dhabi Art, Talks and Sensations: The Wings Party, an experimental mixture of art, performances, film, discussions, music, poetry, dining and dancing was the brainchild of Beaux Arts’ Chief Editor Fabrice Bousteau and transported guests to another world, appealing to all the senses.
Set on a beachside stage, the evening included speeches by TDIC’s Managing Director HE Mubarak Al-Muhairi, internationally renowned architect and mastermind of the Louvre Abu Dhabi, Jean Nouvel, Deputy Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Authority for Culture and Heritage, Zaki Nusseibeh, and iconic pop artist Jeff Koons who exclaimed to the crowd ‘I’m thrilled to be in Abu Dhabi.’
Yoko Ono featured in a film where she presented Abu Dhabi with Al Ghaf wish trees; Stephen Shore showcased Warhol Factory Photographer Looks at the Future Factories, about his experiences in Abu Dhabi; world-famous photographer JR graced the stage clothed in one of his works to introduce his film themed around the honesty of eyes and to explain his installation – a collaged tunnel of black and white shots of women’s faces complemented with voice-overs of each of their stories - leading guests to the event; CocoRosie, dressed in Maghreb-gypsy costumes delighted the crowd with their surreal sounds followed by talks from Henri Loyrette the President of the Louvre and Chinese artist Yan Pei-Ming, whose Funerals of Monna Lisa is currently displayed in the lobby of Emirates Palace; and young talent Reem Al-Ghaith presented her photographs from her work ‘Past Just Now’.
