Abu Dhabi Art is held in and around the impressive UAE Pavilion and Manarat Al Saadiyat in Saadiyat Cultural District on Saadiyat Island, Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Unprecedented in scale and scope, Saadiyat Cultural District will be a centre for global culture, drawing local, regional and international visitors with unique exhibitions, permanent collections, productions and performances. Its iconic institutions, including Zayed National Museum, Louvre Abu Dhabi and Guggenheim Abu Dhabi will be housed in buildings constituting a statement of the finest architecture at the beginning of the 21st century.
The UAE Pavilion, designed by Foster + Partners, was on display for six months at Expo 2010 Shanghai, showcasing exhibitions that highlight the history of the UAE; its stunning design attracted almost two million visitors. Now located in its permanent home beside Manarat Al Saadiyat, the pavilion will be a new landmark exhibition and events venue, hosting some of the country’s most important cultural functions.
Manarat Al Saadiyat literally means ‘the place of enlightenment’. The main galleries of Manarat Al Saadiyat constitute of permanent spaces for a series of exhibitions and educational programmes organised by TDIC. This is part of an ongoing cultural programme dedicated to developing awareness and understanding of art and culture prior to the launch of the Saadiyat Cultural District.
