Leather-Working with Noura Al Mehairi
Emirati designer Noura Al Mehairi will lead a workshop in which people will work with camel leather to make their own coasters, which are both decorative and utilitarian objects. They are also small, easy to make and attractive. The workshop will begin with an introduction by the designer, followed by a talk about her work on display in the Design Studio. Al Mehairi will talk about the history and context of camel-leather as a traditional material, and speak about her background and influences as a designer. She will then outline the idea of the workshop, and guide attendees through the process of designing, stretching and decorating their individual coasters. The objectives of the workshop are to provide general knowledge about Emirati culture and encourage audiences to create craft-work using traditional materials.
Each workshop has a fee of AED 50 per person (non-refundable). All design-work produced can be taken home. No previous design experience needed. Prior registration required. Please call +971 2 657 5800 or email manaratalsaadiyat@tdic.ae for enquiries and bookings. Design workshops are for adults and teens aged 16 years and above. Maximum capacity for each design workshop is 25 people.
